Kedarkantha Trek is one among the foremost famous winter treks in India. The trek starts from a village called Sankri within the Uttarkashi district and gains the utmost height of 12,500 feet (3,800 m) at the Kedarkantha Peak. There are other routes which will connect you to the Kedarkantha Peak, like an eastern ridge, western ridge, and Phulara ridge. But, the villages connected to those areas aren't much explored so most of the trekkers use the Sankri route.

Being a winter trek, the Kedarkantha Trek receives heavy snowfall and is one among the simplest treks for beginners. it's not a brief trek, it takes around 6-7 days to the summit and back (if you're ranging from Dehradun). The Kedarkantha Trek starts from Dehradun city. Trekkers are advised to succeed in Dehradun each day before the pickup date so as to avoid any last-minute hassles. On the day of the commencement of the trip you'll be picked up at around 8:00 am from Dehradun ISBT.

Once picked up from Dehradun, we'll begin our journey to Sankri village which is found at a distance of 230 K.m. from Dehradun and takes around 7-8 hours. it is a long journey but through the gorgeous Himalayan mountains. The journey itself is extremely exciting and thrilling and you'll undergo Mussoorie, Purola, Mori to finally reach Sankri. As we reach on the brink of Sankri we'll be passing through the Govind park which is legendary for its flora and fauna which isn't found anywhere else within the country.

Be sure to form your important phone calls before Mori because only the BSNL network is out there then with limited connectivity. On reaching Sankri, you'll be checked within the Crazy Mountaineers Homestay where you'll spend the night & prepare for the Kedarkantha trek which begins tomorrow.

After having breakfast, we'll start our trek and move towards Sor village. The Kedarkantha trek distance is 18km. After we cross Sor village, we move along a stream that leads us towards Kedarkantha. we might cross some bridges & undergo the dense forest of Maple & Pine. It's a tremendous view that leaves the travelers mesmerized. The forest remains calm and you'll hear the varied streams flowing but they will not be coming into view until we go a touch further.

We will cross various villages and you'll be ready to see locals working within the area going about their day. Walking through the forest, you would possibly be ready to get a glimpse of Himalayan animals. On the way, we'll cross a couple of more streams because the trail climbs into a pointy accent, and thru the dense Oak forest, we'll reach Juda Ka Talab. On the third day of Kedarkantha trek we continue our journey and our next stop are going to be Kedarkantha base which is found at an altitude of 11,250 ft. and a few distance of 4 km. it'll take us around 2 and a half hours to succeed in there.

We will began for our Kedarkantha base after having breakfast. The trail is just about easy and passes through the dense forest of Oak & Pine. If you're trekking in winters you'll start to ascertain snow once we hit the ten ,400 feet mark. Walking forward you'll see nature at its best and can be ready to view the snow-capped peaks of Kala Nag, Swargarohini, and Bandarpoonch.

The fourth day of the trek is destined to overcome the Kedarkantha Peak. Today the trekkers got to hike an elevation from 11,250 feet to 12,500 feet. The schedule of the day includes hiking to Kedarkantha peak then again descending back to Base camp.

Today may be a long day but watching the sun because the first rays hit the Kedarkantha peak will cause you to forget all of your worries and it's very well worth the challenge that lies before us. There are tons of various trails that we will combat from here but we follow the most trail.

We will once more cross through the oak forest but it's a neater trail which gets a touch tricky as we meet up with to the height . At the highest of the height , you'll find alittle temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and alittle shrine of Lord Ganesha. From the height , you'll be ready to see a tremendous 360 degrees view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. it's something that's difficult to place down in words and may only be experienced at a private level.

After spending a while at the height we start to descend right down to the basecamp through an equivalent trail that we came from. As we reach the bottom , this may mark the top of the day today as we retire to the tents to possess some rest after dinner.

Today we start descending down further towards Sankri after having breakfast within the morning. On our way down we'll undergo an equivalent Oak forest and little streams that we encountered on the primary day. a touch down the trail there's a ridge from where you'll catch the view of the Har Ki Dun Valley. Upon reaching Sankri you'll explore the encompassing areas and therefore the local marketplace for any souvenirs that you simply might want to require back with you. Tonight are going to be spent at The Crazy Mountaineers Homestay.

You will be traveling back to Dehradun to Sankri as today marks the Judgment Day of the Kedarkantha Trek. The 230 Km journey will take around 8 hours and you'll reach Dehradun by late evening.

Charges of offloading backpack:-

  • INR 1200/- if you make an online payment, 10 days in advance

  • The backpack cannot weigh more than 11 kgs. Backpack should have waterproof cover. Suitcases/strolleys/ bags will not be allowed.
